Monday, May 20: Market Perspectives

Today, Informatica World 2019 kicked off with Market Perspectives Day, an “outside-in” view from industry analysts who shared the latest market trends and their thought-provoking ideas:

  • Sheryl Kingstone, Research Vice President and General Manager of Voice of the Connected User Landscape, 451 Research, discussed being data-driven in the experience economy, and how “data, digital, and intelligence will separate leaders from the laggards.”
  • Sanjeev Mohan, Senior Director Analyst, Big Data and Advanced Analytics, Gartner, spoke to the fact that organizations need to be thoughtful when architecting their hybrid integration platforms, as one size does not fit all.
  • Ehtisham Zaidi, Senior Principal Analyst, Data Management and Analytics, Gartner, shared that by next year, data preparation will be used as an embedded capability in data management platforms in more than 50% of integration efforts for analytics and data science.

Each of the four Market Perspectives explored how AI and data management are informing Informatica customers’ four journeys:

Attendees also heard from customers and partners, who shared details of their journeys and how they’ve been delivering great business outcomes together with Informatica. These included:

  • Bob Russell, CEO of CTA Group, who shared his company’s Cloud/Hybrid journey, and how they’re illuminating new possibilities with intelligent data, such as leveraging data and insights to find solutions for housing the homeless population.
  • Blake Sanders, Senior Vice President, Information Technology at American Cancer Society, who discussed his 360 Engagement journey, and how the ACS has unearthed actionable insights by having an intelligent, 360-degree view of all their enterprise data.
  • Vira Shanty, Chief Data Officer at OVO, who discussed her company’s Next-Generation Analytics journey, along with leadership lessons around providing your team with a clear roadmap while providing a playground for failing and learning.

2019 Innovation Awards

During the evening’s 2019 Innovation Award ceremony and reception, Informatica recognized intelligent disruptors who use data to deliver great business outcomes, celebrating customers' success using Informatica’s solutions and services.

Informatica announced that BP was named the Intelligent Disruptor of the Year. BP is using Enterprise Data Catalog and Big Data solutions to take full advantage of their data lakes. Informatica is helping BP create a global energy picture by connecting upstream and downstream data to optimize trades and manage risks and compliance in a highly regulated industry.

Tuesday, May 21: Morning and Afternoon General Sessions

Morning General Session

Today, Informatica World 2019 officially kicked off with a morning General Session and welcome Keynote featuring Informatica CEO Anil Chakravarthy. Anil discussed the importance of AI and machine learning and how, while AI has been progressing for many years, we’re now at a point where it’s delivering value to practical applications across all industries. It has become consumable—AI and machine learning need trusted data, and data management needs AI and machine learning to scale.

Anil was joined by Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi, who announced that Databricks and Informatica are partnering to accelerate development of intelligent data pipelines, with a joint solution allowing data teams faster development and complete data governance for data engineering workloads.

Informatica President of Products and Marketing Amit Walia then took the stage for his first keynote of the conference, focusing on the innovations Informatica delivered to its customers over the past year.

Anil wrapped up the morning General Session joined onstage by Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian. The two announced that Informatica and Google Cloud will be enhancing the organizations’ strategic partnership, with broader and deeper connectivity across the Informatica Intelligent Data Platform, enabling enterprises to accelerate their data-driven digital transformation initiatives on the Google Cloud Platform.

Solutions Expo

After opening its doors for the Monday evening opening reception, where guests and Informatica partners mingled over refreshments, the Solutions Expo saw its first full day of action on Tuesday. Attendees discovered the latest technology and services from Informatica partners, experienced new solutions firsthand in the Informatica Pavilion, and took in the steady stream of live interviews with Informatica executives, customers, partners, and sponsors at theCube structure.

AI & Cloud Innovation Showcase

At Informatica World 2019, twelve companies had an opportunity to showcase a creative, innovative, state-of-the-art technology idea or solution that leveraged Informatica products and services along with their own. We are proud to announce that Gigaspaces won the award for best AI and Cloud Innovation!

Afternoon General Session

The day continued with Breakouts, Roundtables, and Deep dives featuring key Informatica customers and partners, before closing out the day’s content with an afternoon General Session, where Anil was joined onstage by Simon Upton, Chief Operating Officer for Investment Banking and Capital Markets with longtime Informatica customer Credit Suisse.

Finally, the day concluded with Amazon Web Services (AWS) VP of Worldwide Marketing Ariel Kelman joining Anil for some exciting news. The two announced an Informatica partnership with AWS and Cognizant, offering joint data assessment packages that will help customers accelerate their migration to AWS. Using Informatica’s intelligent Enterprise Data Catalog, enterprises will be able to discover and understand more about the data they want to migrate—with one simple solution.

Closing General Session

After another a day of in-depth Breakouts, intimate Roundtable discussions, and robust Deep-Dive sessions, the day concluded with Informatica Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Sally Jenkins taking the stage for the closing general session. The focus of the session was bringing Informatica customer journeys to life, and included a conversation with Danielle Beringer, Chief Data Officer at Nissan North America.

Following that discussion, Sally announced that Informatica is sending the Informatica Next 25 kids—part of a STEM initiative designed to close the opportunity and access gap for underrepresented students—to weeklong summer coding camps. The students will either learn Python coding to build their own Pi-Top laptop (which they get to keep), or they will learn Python coding and AI with a Cozmo robot—which also gets to go home with them.

Finally, the afternoon general session concluded with Informatica President of Products and Marketing Amit Walia giving attendees a glimpse at what they can expect to see from Informatica in the year ahead. He was joined onstage by special guests Steven Guggenheimer, Corporate VP of AI and ISV Engagement at Microsoft, and Francois Ajenstat, Chief Product Officer at Tableau.

After three full days of learning, networking, connecting and innovating, Informatica World 2019 attendees were ready for a chance to relax. And they got exactly that at the Informatica World After Dark event at Topgolf Las Vegas on Wednesday evening. Guests got the opportunity to unwind with their fellow attendees while playing a variety of golf games—and other fun activities—and enjoying tasty food and beverages with a stunning view of the Las Vegas Strip.
